Our history

VAN HERP & FRUMENTO (P&I SERVICES) LTDA., formerly known as William van Herp & Frumento Filho, Associados Ltda., was established in Paranagua in January 1988 by William Frank van Herp and João Helio Frumento, longtime friends with different professional backgrounds. João has naval experience, while William came from the legal field. This partnership is reflected in our logo, which combines an anchor symbolizing João’s naval background and the scales of justice representing William’s legal expertise. The company was formed with the aim of providing specialized services in P&I correspondence, including marine advisory and legal consultancy. Unfortunately, William passed away prematurely in October 1999, and the structure of the company was reorganized and continued its activities under the leadership of João Frumento. In recognition of William’s contribution, the company kept his last name and the logo as a tribute to his legacy. In 2000, Abilio Abreu joined the company. With a law degree and a legal background, his arrival broadened the company’s in-house expertise and reinforced its commitment in delivering practical, solution-oriented services. In 2001, the company became a founding member of SAPIC (South American P&I Correspondents) [www.sapic.org], an informal, nonprofit association of South American Correspondents for P&I Clubs. SAPIC was established to promote unity among the region’s long-established correspondents and to support the continuity and growth of its members’ business. In 2024, João’s daughter Angela Frumento joined the company, she also holds a law degree. This reinforces our identity as a family-owned business and our commitment to support women in the maritime field. We are committed to providing specialized services to the maritime industry, upholding the highest ethical standards and maintaining robust systems and procedures, always focused on the future while honoring our tradition. Our company All of our services are delivered in full compliance with our Code of Ethics and Supplier Code of Conduct. We focus on legal compliance, combating corruption, commitment to ethics, socio-environmental responsibility, and respect for human rights.
